We began this listserve on January 4, 2005.
This listserve reaches the Western PA, WV, OH and MD regions .... but can be used by anyone, anywhere.
Members of the North Pittsburgh Macintosh Users Group [NPMUG] started meeting back in 1996 ... an idea started on the back of a napkin.
The notion of having a list like this was discussed many years ... we finally did it in 2005.
One simple rule: If it can help another Mac user .... it is OK to post here.
We avoid discussing material not Mac related ... such as politics or personal opinions.
We all agree to not to be harmful to anyone else with our comments.
Remember that everything you post is VERY public.
Be nice !
And welcome to our listserve for Mac users.
-----
One more thing .... when you reply to someone's posting, the Mailman software is actually designed to "reply to sender only" ... so that long conversations between members are taken offline and kept private between members. This keeps the number of postings down each day.
If you need to "reply to all" it should be as a request to all members .... or a summary for all members after someone has helped you solve a problem.
These days I find friends, neighbors, colleagues, famous people and sometimes entire organizations making a complete switch to an enlightened life with Macs, iPhones and iPods at work and play .....
.... delivered from a tired and frustrating legacy of PC use ....
.... and it is almost to the level of "being set free" from the problems inherent in the Windows platform. It is always a happy day to meet a new Mac user.
Many public displays of Mac affection are strategic and intentional on TV and in movies .... in Apple's highly successful product placement efforts.
Some Mac spottings are not so intentional and are very cool to share with others.
In many ways it gives all us Mac users more evidence to evangelize on behalf of Apple. I mention the US Government's use of Apples in the Army and FBI all the time.
So, having this phenomenon of pervasive and yearly Mac usage increases in all walks of life is definitely OK to post here on this list ....
=========
Here are a few guidelines to consider before you post:
1. Have some valid proof, not rumors ..... example : I heard recently that a large PA university is "mandating" all incoming freshman buy a Mac .... not PC's, only a Mac. I need to research this first before I post an unsubstantiated rumor.
2. Post a screenshot of the Apple in use or link to some visual or written reference to help our listserve members research it further for their own "bragging rights" to spread the word. Having the NPMUG and at least one other source of reference makes evangelizing Apple's growth more valid and trustworthy.
3. Don't editorialize beyond the spotting of the Mac and please refrain drawing conclusions as to why that company or individual is using Macs in your words .... please try to find their words as the background for supporting their use of Apples.
